FAQ

  • Is ICP15 going to be a hybrid meeting?

No. ICP15 will be an in-person meeting. However, if a speaker is unable to attend the conference due to unforeseen circumstances, it will be possible to either give the talk remotely or play a pre-recorded talk.

  • What's included in the registration cost?

Admission to the conference, lunch and snacks every day, and the palaeomusicology concert.

  • Will there be a travel grants for Early Career Researchers?

Yes. You can apply for these via a form available on the travel grants. page (registration and login required).

  • Is it safe to visit India?

We would not be organising a conference here if we thought it was unsafe. Although some countries advise against travel to some parts of India, none of these warnings apply specifically to Bengaluru, which is one of the safest cities in the country. You should exercise a similar level of caution as you would when visiting any new country, and be sensitive to cultural differences between India and your home country. On top of this, both the conference venue and accommodation are in secure compounds with 24/7 security, and we will be running shuttle busses between these locations. We are confident that your conference trip will be safe and comfortable!

  • Will I need a visa to attend the conference?

This depends on your country of origin, but most likely yes. You will need to apply for a specific conference visa, which requires official invitation letters. We are collecting all necessary information during the registration process, and you will receive the invitation letters you need and application instructions after registration.

  • Do I need vaccinations to visit India?

Yes. India is a sub-tropical country, so carries more health risks than cooler climates. You can find a good overview of medical considerations when travelling to India here, but please consult your local health service/doctor for more complete travel advice on vaccinations for travelling to India. All this said, Bangalore is a relatively safe part of India, and we’ll do our best to make sure you have a healthy experience at the conference!

  • How will I get to the conference venue?

On arrival, we have arranged shuttle busses to take people from the airport to conference accommodation. During the conference, these buses will be available to take you between conference accommodation and the venue, which is around 2km (~1.5 miles).

  • Where should I stay?

We have arranged two types of accommodation: on-site accommodation for ECR’s for the entire conference, and hotel rooms in the nearby Sheraton Grand. Information on pricing and how to book will be available on the ‘Accommodation’ page of the website (registration and login required) from the 1st February.

  • How easy is it to travel around Bangalore?

UBER is available 24/7. There is also a metro (subway), buses, and tuk tuks/auto rickshaw (for the more adventurous!) available throughout the city. The official accommodations will be within 2 km (~1.5 miles) of the conference venue, and we will run shuttle busses to the conference venue.

  • Do I need to enrol for workshops early?

Yes, it is strongly advised to enroll in the workshops as early as possible. These will be advertised on the Workshops page from the 1st March.

  • Will there be any field trips organised around the conference for participants?

Yes. Information about field trips and how to register for them will be added to the My ICP15 section of the website (registration and login required). We will notify you by email when these are available to book.

  • IISc is big! Where exactly will the conference be held?

The conference will be held in the J.N. Tata auditorium.
